Begin with a readable idea

Choose one main shape and a small color palette before adding detail. Test the design at a small size against both light and dark backgrounds. Fine lettering and elaborate borders may disappear in an avatar even when they look impressive on a large canvas. Ask several members what they see without first explaining the design.

Check the game’s rules before commissioning

The current official guidelines specify a 128 × 128 PNG and restrict who can submit an emblem. They also prohibit generative-AI images and several categories of imagery. Read the complete linked rules before commissioning or uploading artwork; an image suitable for a website is not automatically eligible for use inside Warframe.

Agree with an artist on originality, permitted uses, and a written record of authorization. Keep source files and relevant permission records. Do not assume that paying for a commission grants every possible right, or that a web search result is free artwork.

Design for each placement

An emblem should remain recognizable as a compact avatar. A banner can use a wider composition with more breathing room. Avoid stretching one square image across the whole banner area. Keep essential shapes away from edges that may be cropped, and preview both desktop and mobile layouts.

On Warframe Clan Finder, owner-maintained profiles support uploaded artwork. When no banner is supplied, the profile uses its normal background so an empty upload area does not compete with the clan’s content.

Publish with accurate expectations

Directory uploads and official in-game emblem review are separate processes. Neither approval certifies the other. Keep an alternative ready if an image needs revision, and avoid promising members an official release date you do not control.
